Underlayment calculator — rolls & square feet

Count rolls separately from flooring cartons. Choose a recorded roll or enter the coverage printed on your own package.

Calculate your materials

Recorded product choices apply that merchant’s pack coverage, price and minimum order. Manual details are your own estimate.

Save room measurements in the US room planner to reuse them here. L-shaped floor sections are not treated as complete rooms for wall paint.

Add non-overlapping rectangles for an L-shaped room or several rooms.

Example: 12.5 × 16 ft = 200 sq ft. With 10% allowance, the target is 220 sq ft. At 100 sq ft per roll, buy 3 rolls.

10% is an adjustable example, not an installation instruction. This estimates materials; tax, delivery, labor, preparation, trims, tape and separate membranes are extra.

How many rolls of underlayment do I need?

Divide your target square feet by the roll’s usable coverage, then round up. For 200 sq ft with a 10% planning allowance, a 100 sq ft roll needs three rolls; a 200 sq ft roll needs two. Use the exact roll size, and account for the product’s seam and perimeter instructions.

Choose the layer before ordering it

The four recorded US accessories are quantity examples, not a recommended shortlist for every laminate. QuietWalk LV, QuietWalk Plus and standard QuietWalk are distinct products. Do not transfer one product’s installation instructions to another.

Does extra underlayment help a floor with attached pad?

Confirm the floor’s instructions before adding cushioning. Required moisture protection is a separate question. Use our attached-pad and concrete checklists to collect the right information.
